More Questions?Frequently Asked Questions

Where do we FIND our product?

We FIND our product by being in close contact with the local farmers and greenhouse
producers and their processing and/or marketing plants. In case of a surplus we connect
and arrange the transportation. If the farmer has already harvested the produce, we
pick it up. If the produce is still to be harvested, we organize a volunteer harvesting crew.

What is "Gleaning" anyway?

In ancient biblical times, gleaning meant to look for some left-over or missed produce.
Landowners were mandated by law to ensure that sufficient unharvested food was left to
enable the poor, the migrant and orphaned to survive. It was legislated welfare provision,
so to speak.

A call from a farmer could mean that a two acre untouched corner out of a 30 acre field of
celery is available for gleaning. Each circumstance is unique.

Processing and Drying

PROCESSING is done in our plant in Abbotsford. We wash, cut and slice produce
and spread in on "baking trays" (about 2 lbs per tray).

The trays are put on dollies and wheeled into an INDUSTRIAL DRYER. This dryer
uses convection heat to dry the produce. Depending on the type of produce it takes 5-10 hours
before the produce is sufficiently dried. Once dry, is transferred from the trays into storage barrels.

Packaging

At the end of the season we make up the soup recipe based on the product on hand. If
needed, some additional vegetables or grain product are purchased, such as barley or
lentils. Ingredients are mixed and packaged into sealed bags. About 6,000 soup servings
are packed into a 40 gallon barrel, ready for shipment.

Shipping

We ship through reputable relief organizations. Sometimes this happens through a local
church that is preparing a container for a sponsored missionary overseas. Requests for
product can be forwarded to us for approval and allocation.

Please pray with us...

  1. Thank God with us for the generosity of the farmers, greenhouse growers and
food producers who are willing to make produce available for processing and
    subsequent hunger relief.
  2. Thank God with us for donors who give time, resources and skills to make this
    organization possible.
  3. Pray with us that God's Spirit will encourage those who are in a position to contribute,
to consider being a part of this valuable mission work.
