Celebration & Fundraising Banquet
Our 16th Annual Celebration and Fundraising Banquet was held on September 22 & 23, 2017, in Abbotsford. It was another amazing celebration of what God is doing thorough the ministry of Fraser Valley Gleaners. A presentation was given by food distributor Dell Marie Wergeland from Compassionate Resource Warehouse based in Victoria. Dell Marie shared her passion of organizing and filling containers for Humanitarian Aid and how Gleaner’s soup has been helping those in extreme poverty all around the world. A singing group from Gateway Church provided the entertainment. Over 515 guests attended the two evenings as we all enjoyed a wonderful meal by Karen Bergen and team. Donations received at the banquets exceeded $110,000. We are grateful for the funds raised to be used for covering our operating and production costs. Thank you for all your encouragement, support and generous giving to this ministry. We give thanks to our Lord Who is providing more abundantly than we could hope for, through the generosity of His people. The praise and glory go to Him alone. |
Soup Mix and Apple Snacks to Nepal
Report from “Himalayan Life” 2017: Himalayan Life runs homes and programs in both Nepal and India for street kids, slave kids and abandoned kids with their daily feeding program. Jan Quiring from Vancouver says: “Thank you so much for your generous donation of Apple Snacks and Soup for Himalayan Life’s projects in India and Nepal as we seek to protect, nurture and educate the orphaned and vulnerable children of the Himalayas through various programs. 1) Feeding the kids of bonded slaves in Ladakh, India for whom we provide room, board and education 2) Feeding the street children through our Street Kitchen Program in Pokhara, Nepal. As Ladakh has no access to fresh fruit or greens for 5-6 months of the year when the road is closed, the soup mix was gratefully used to help provide nutritious meals for the children. The dried apples snacks were used not only as stand-alone snacks, but added to create delicious apple pancakes which the kids loved. The apples were a hit with the children. We are grateful for all you do to help feed the hungry. Thank you for allowing us to partner with you in this way.” Jan Quiring |

We miss our good friend and co-worker, Peter Funk. He was our Founding Director, Administrative Assistant and an active Board Member and Volunteer here at Fraser Valley Gleaners. A funeral was held on June 19th in Abbotsford. We extend our heart-felt condolences and prayers to the Funk Family. Peter was an example of a servant of God, and he is truly missed by staff and all who worked with him. |
