Food for the Hungry in Burundi
Three containers of Gleaners soup mix were distributed in Burundi with FH Canada. Burundi is one of the poorest countries in East Africa. It is a land locked, 27,830 sq. km. country with a population of over 11.8 million people. FH staff say, “vegetable soup distribution is helping families in dire circumstances of food shortage. Families are using the soup in two ways: first they will prepare the soup in the morning for individual meals and second they will prepare it for the family evening meal by mixing it with other available foods like beans, peas, bananas, and sweet potatoes.” Project manager Minerve, states: “65% of Burundi’s population live in poverty with good food availability being one of the greatest needs. This vegetable soup mix is rich in vitamins and protein, it has improved the health of many families, we praise God for people like you.” |

Celebration and Fundraising Dinner
Our 18th Annual Banquet was held two nights, September 27th & 28th at the Eben-Ezer Church in Abbotsford. The entertainment was provided by M.E.I. Middle and High School Chorales and was enjoyed both evenings. Various testimonies were given by Verna & Rene May and our Assistant Manager, Joel Pasma, about their experiences of working at the Gleaners. Susan Ritchie with First Steps Canada Society www.firststepscanada.org shared about how the Gleaners Soup and Apple Snacks impacted families and was used for feeding children in North Korea. Donations received at the banquets exceeded $100,000- for the operating and production costs. We give thanks to our Lord for another year of abundance, and the praise and glory go to Him alone. Thank you for your continued support, encouragement and generous giving to Fraser Valley Gleaners. |

Building Permit Update
Many people have been asking what is happening with regards to our application for a permit to expand our kitchen, washroom and office area and how this will impact our work at FVG. We know that many of you have been praying about this matter. The City of Abbotsford unanimously approved our application, but the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) has denied our application to build our addition. We have appealed that decision and are currently waiting for the results of that appeal. Rumors have been spread that ALC is trying to shut Gleaners down completely (and at least one news article has been published to that effect), and we want to clarify that this is not the case – they are not asking us to shut down our operation, but so far are refusing us permission to expand our facilities. Please continue to pray for a speedy and satisfactory result. Ed Klassen President |
